AML & KYC Policy
Last updated 30 September 2026
This document is being finalised with our legal advisers and may change before publication.
Energywallet is committed to keeping its ecosystem safe and to preventing money laundering, terrorist financing and fraud. This page summarises how we do that and what we ask of you.
Our commitment
We follow the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing requirements that apply to us and our licensed banking partners in Nigeria, including [TBC: applicable CBN regulations, confirmed by counsel].
Knowing our customers (KYC)
Before you can use all of Energywallet, we verify who you are. Depending on how you use the app, this can include:
- Your full name, date of birth and phone number
- Your Bank Verification Number (BVN) or National Identification Number (NIN)
- A photo or selfie check
- For vendors and organisations, business registration details and the identity of directors
Account limits depend on your verification level. [TBC: summary of KYC tiers and their limits, or a link to Terms.]
Verifying businesses
Vendors complete business verification and are approved by our support team before selling. Organisations using Token Disbursement, service vouchers or corporate travel are verified as companies before access is granted.
Monitoring transactions
We monitor activity on the platform to spot unusual or suspicious patterns. Where the law requires, we report suspicious activity to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and cooperate with regulators and law enforcement.
Sanctions screening
We screen customers and transactions against relevant sanctions lists, and we may refuse or pause a transaction that raises concerns.
Keeping records
We keep identity and transaction records for the period the law requires, typically at least five years after a relationship ends.
What we ask of you
- Give accurate, up-to-date information and keep your details current.
- Use Energywallet only for lawful purposes.
- Tell us straight away if you notice activity you don't recognise.
We may ask for more information, limit an account, or close it where needed to meet these obligations.
