How it works

Money moves forward only when your team approves it, and returns only to your verified bank account.

  1. 01

    Onboard and fund

We verify your organisation, set up your programme's funding account and lock your withdrawal account. Then you deposit.

  2. 02

    Prepare a batch

Upload your recipient list and set the amount per token and the expiry. We flag duplicate and repeated numbers before anything is sent.

  3. 03

    Approve and send

A second approver on your team signs off. Each recipient then gets a unique code by SMS, tied to their phone number.

  4. 04

    Track every naira

Watch tokens get redeemed in the app or with agents. Anything unclaimed at expiry returns to you automatically.

For recipients

Every recipient gets a text with their code, the expiry date and how to redeem. Smartphone or feature phone, the money reaches them.

In the Energywallet app

  1. 1The recipient signs in with the phone number the SMS was sent to.
  2. 2They open Top up and claim the token with their code.
  3. 3The value lands in their balance, ready to spend or send.

With an Energywallet agent

  1. 1The agent enters the recipient's code, which reserves the token.
  2. 2The recipient confirms with a one-time code sent to their phone.
  3. 3The agent hands over the cash, and the recipient gets an SMS receipt naming the amount and the agent.

Controls

The service runs separately from everyday Energywallet accounts, with checks at every point where money moves.

Two-person approval

Every batch and withdrawal needs a maker and an approver on your side, plus two sign-offs on ours.

Ring-fenced funds

Programme money sits in its own account, kept apart from everyday wallet balances.

Locked withdrawal account

Funds return only to the bank account verified at onboarding. Changing it needs sign-off from both sides.

Tied to the recipient

Each redemption needs the recipient's phone, through app sign-in or a one-time code at the agent.

Checked recipient lists

Uploads flag duplicate numbers and numbers already used in another batch.

Automatic returns

Unclaimed value returns to your funding account on the expiry date, after a reminder to the recipient.

Masked codes

Your dashboard and exports show codes partly hidden. Only the recipient's SMS carries the full code.

Permanent audit trail

Every action is logged with who did it, what changed and when.

Reporting

Every batch comes with a report of what was issued, delivered, redeemed and returned, with where, when and through which channel. Export it for your records in the format your auditors ask for.
